Millennium Park

On Saturday afternoon, after our visit to the Art Institute, we crossed Michigan Avenue to Cindy’s Rooftop. We had to stand in line about 20 minutes for the elevator, but it was worth the wait. The restaurant had a glass atrium and a terrace with expansive views of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan. The cocktails had imaginative names - mine was called “Trouble Will Find Me” - and were excellent.

After cocktails, we had a craving for Chicago pizza, so we walked a couple of blocks to Giordano’s. Like Cindy’s, it was worth waiting for. We had the Chicago Classic Deep Dish, with pepperoni, green peppers, and onions. YUM.

After pizza, we had just enough time to dash across Randolph Street for a free concert at the Harris Theater in Millennium Park. The program was Stravinsky’s Petrushka, followed by two choral works (Brahms and Kodály). Much like seeing great paintings at the Art Institute, music is so much better when you experience it live. The theater was top-notch - it’s all underground - and the orchestra and choir were terrific. This is one of the joys of summertime in Chicago: plenty of live music, free to the public!

After the concert, we reclaimed our leftover pizza from coat-check and walked along Michigan Avenue toward home. It was Pride Weekend, and the skyscrapers were lit up in celebration. It was beautiful - the perfect finale for an excellent Saturday night in Chicago.
