Moretown, VT
Our home in Vermont is a big, beautiful house in Moretown, a small town in the scenic Mad River Valley. The house belongs to our good friends Karen and Jimbo, who have graciously allowed us to squat, I mean house-sit, again. So this is a familiar and beloved place for us. The house is on a hillside, surrounded by woodlands, with panoramic views of the Green Mountains. We have cool weather, gorgeous sunsets, lots of space, and every comfort we could possibly want. The only thing missing is the company of our wonderful friends/hosts.
My walks around the neighborhood are on a mix of paved and gravel roads with very light vehicle traffic. It’s hilly, which makes for good exercise! It’s also peaceful and picturesque. Many of the surrounding properties are farms, with pastures for horses or cows, and barns of different shapes, sizes and vintages. A large family of wild turkeys has become a familiar sight. The mountains provide a scenic backdrop, and the foliage is just starting to change colors.
This time of year, fresh vegetables are bountiful at the nearby farmer’s markets. After weeks of eating mostly in restaurants, it has been wonderful to stay at home and enjoy Steve’s delicious home-cooked dishes.
I feel pampered by the comfortable living spaces, scenic walks, and farm-to-table meals. The ultimate indulgence has been many hours of assembling jigsaw puzzles while listening to audiobooks. I admit, I went a little overboard.
This idyllic time in the heart of the Green Mountain State has been the perfect coda to our seven-week adventure in New England. Thank you, Karen and Jimbo, for sharing your home with us! We look forward to visiting Moretown again, but next time it will be when we can hang out with you.
