Moving Day: Chicago to Vancouver

We had a quiet last day at home in Chicago. Packing didn’t take long, but we had bought some items for our five-week stay that we couldn’t take to our next destination. We mailed a few things to Danny in San Francisco, since we knew we’d use them there. I posted the remaining items on Buy Nothing, and some appreciative neighbors picked them up. It always makes me happy to find new homes for our stuff.

We checked out of our apartment on the morning of June 28. It would be a four hour flight to Vancouver, so at O’Hare Airport I bought lunch from my favorite vending machine, Farmer’s Fridge. My Mediterranean Bowl (quinoa tabbouleh, feta cheese, seasoned chickpeas, and lemon tahini sauce) came cleverly packed in a jar. It was easy to take on the plane, easy to eat in-flight without mess or smell, and quite fresh and tasty! There are over 1,000 Farmer’s Fridges across the United States, and when taking long-ish flights I always check to see if there is one near our departure gate.

This was not a typical moving day - it was also the first day of our vacation in Western Canada! We had an uneventful flight (my favorite kind). Vancouver was gorgeous from the air - skyscrapers, mountains, and water. I wish I could have taken a good photo or two as we were landing (airplane wing was in the way). At Vancouver Airport, the walk to Immigration was a scenic tour, with an expansive atrium and striking artwork. It was a terrific start to our vacation.
