Moving Day: Cobb to San Francisco
We left Cobb a day earlier than planned, to take advantage of a last-minute opportunity for top-notch medical care.
Steve needed Mohs surgery to remove a small basal cell carcinoma on the side of his face. We made a last-minute decision to get that procedure done right away in East Bay (San Ramon), where thanks to a cancellation, Steve was able to see a renowned dermatologic surgeon. Dr. Blackstone performs Mohs surgery around the world, through the nonprofit he founded. The surgery was successful, the scar is small and healing well, and we are thankful.
After the surgery, we drove to a nearby mall so that Steve could buy a suit. (We have three weddings to attend in the coming months!) Clothes shopping is one of Steve’s least favorite activities, but a capable expert at Nordstrom helped us accomplish the mission efficiently. We rewarded ourselves with a relaxing lunch before driving to San Francisco.
As we drove across the Bay Bridge, there were dozens of billboards with artificial intelligence memes. They seemed an oddly 2D/analog way to advertise in this digital age. I think I’m reasonably tech savvy for a retired person, but some of the lingo on these billboards stumped me. You can test your own tech fluency in this New York Times quiz.
