Moving Day: NYC to DC
I’m always looking for ways to minimize our carbon footprint, so we took the train from New York City to Washington, D.C. We departed from beautiful Moynihan Train Hall, formerly the city’s main post office. On the building’s exterior, the US Postal Service creed was engraved above the columns: “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” Inside, the glass-roofed hall was flooded with natural light. Gorgeous!
The train journey was smooth and uneventful. We did see a lovely sunset as we approached Baltimore.
It was exciting to arrive in DC and walk through Union Station, with its almost endless expanse of marble floors and soaring vaulted ceiling. Outside, the triumphal arches were decorated with enormous holiday wreaths. It was a festive, monumental welcome to our nation’s capital.
