Moving Day: San Francisco to Nafplio

This was our longest Moving Day to date. We traveled about 7,000 miles over nearly two full days. We didn’t take the fastest or most direct route, trading time for a little more comfort.

We left San Francisco at 4:30pm Tuesday and flew to London on British Airways. BA’s onboard safety video was a funny five minute mashup of beloved British period dramas (Bridgerton, Pride and Prejudice, and Outlander). It was the first time I ever wanted to re-watch an airplane safety video! You don’t have to take a BA flight to see it - just click here.

We caught a connecting flight in London and landed in Athens at 8:00pm Wednesday. Our first glimpse of Greece was a lovely sunset!

We overnighted in central Athens. Our stylish hotel had a rooftop restaurant, so our first dinner in Greece was with a view of the Parthenon!

On Thursday morning we enjoyed the hotel’s sumptuous breakfast buffet and took a short walk through the Central Municipal Market to Monistiraki Square. We were jet-lagged, and we’d be spending more time in Athens next month, so we didn’t feel pressure to see more. And after two months in the cool temperatures of Vancouver, Seattle, and San Francisco, the intense heat of the sun in Athens was a shock to our systems!

At 2:00pm we boarded a bus for the two-hour drive to Nafplio, a historic coastal city on the Peloponnese peninsula. Our route took us along the Isthmus of Corinth, so we saw deep blue sea on both sides of the bus (though not at the same time). We arrived in Nafplio at 4:00pm Thursday, travel-weary and grateful for our safe journey.
