Portland Walks

Portland is Maine’s largest city, but it’s not a large city (about 68,000 people). It has a busy working seaport and a growing reputation for great restaurants and breweries. Our stay in Portland was extra special because our daughter Amy flew up from New York to spend the week with us!

We stayed on the second floor of a house in a quiet residential neighborhood. We were about two miles from downtown Portland, and just a few blocks from The Great Lost Bear, a much loved place known for having a LOT of Maine craft beer on tap. (They had run out of our first few choices, but we were quite happy with the beers we ended up with!)

Nearby was Back Cove Trail, a 3.6-mile loop around the tidal basin it’s named after. I wouldn’t call it scenic - it’s an urban trail, not a nature trail - but there were views of downtown, and it was interesting to see the mudflats, salt marshes, and seagulls.

I explored other parts of Portland on foot - namely Eastern Prom and Downtown Portland.
