Our Santa Fe Home

We are staying in the South Capitol neighborhood of Santa Fe, in a traditional adobe house built 100 years ago by our host’s grandfather. There are charming details everywhere, including high ceilings with vigas (exposed wooden beams), wall niches with wooden statuary, and a purple kiva fireplace. It’s springtime, we’re at 7,200 ft elevation, and desert nights are chilly (35-40℉). Even with the house’s adobe bricks absorbing heat during the day, we love having a reason to use the fireplace in the evenings. Such a treat!

Our neighborhood is a quiet residential area with homes of diverse styles, lovely gardens, and trees in full bloom. From our windows, we can see the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, with snow still visible on some peaks. The Plaza, the Farmer’s and Artisan’s Markets, and loads of restaurants, galleries, museums, and parks are just a 15 or 20 minute walk away. It’s a lovely and convenient home base for exploring Santa Fe.
