San Miguel Walks

I confess I didn’t walk as much as I normally do in San Miguel. With kids visiting, and holiday activities, and the fun but challenging jigsaw puzzles I received for Christmas, I didn’t make much time for long walks. But in San Miguel, even a short walk offers loads of interesting sights. Here are some highlights from our walks.

Guadalupe

When Steve and I first visited San Miguel in 2023, we took a walking food tour called Arts and Snacks, and we enjoyed it so much that we booked it again to do with the kids. The tour took us through the Guadalupe neighborhood, with its colorful houses and murals.

Parque Juarez

San Miguel’s historic Zona Centro is paved with uneven cobblestones, with narrow sidewalks and uneven curbs. Walking is challenging and can even be treacherous. Steve and I enjoyed walking in Parque Juarez, where we could relax and stroll, looking around at the gardens instead of down at our feet. We were lucky to see a wedding party, complete with bride and groom mojigangas (giant puppets) and a mariachi band.

San Miguel Characters

You never know who or what you might come across when walking around Zona Centro! There was the friendly guy with the flower-toting burro - he took our photo for us. And the hat man reminded us of the children’s book, Caps for Sale.
