Sevilla Family Reunion
It started as a small get-together for a few family members…then it mushroomed into a big reunion for nearly 30 relatives! Most were Sevillas - from Maria’s mom’s side of the family tree.
On Thursday, our immediate family flew in: Maria’s mom from Jacksonville, Amy from New York City, Danny from San Francisco, and his girlfriend Mae from Austin. On Friday, Maria’s sister Marg (along with wife Gabriella and son Emmett) flew in from New York City. And then more and more Sevillas began arriving via car, from Toledo and Cincinnati and Milwaukee. We were 19 adults and 9 kids, spanning three generations: the oldest was 93, the youngest was 2. Most of this big, rowdy bunch stayed at a hotel near our apartment, where the staff (for the most part) took it all in stride. The weekend was busy: we did some sight-seeing, and we played some games, but mostly, in true Sevilla fashion, we feasted on good food together.
It was wonderful to see everyone! It was also chaotic, like getting caught in a big storm. And wouldn’t you know: after most people had gone home, some real tornadoes moved through Chicago, a rare weather event. Danny was stranded in Chicago for two more days. He stayed with us, and we were grateful for the extra time with him.
