Old Favorites

For dinner before a play at the Straz Center, we returned to a longtime pre-theater favorite, Si-am Thaimerican. We ordered our usual dishes, “medium spicy,” and were pleased to find they were just as delicious as we remembered.

One of our favorite Tampa chefs is BT Nguyen, and we had an opportunity to return to Bistro BT for lunch. Normally we have the pho, but this time we were in the mood for a “bun” bowl and a bánh mì. YUM.

New Favorites

For take-out one night, we tried a new Filipino restaurant, Lucky Tigre, and we were very impressed. The dishes looked attractive, the flavors were authentic, and the lumpia and fried chicken were satisfyingly crispy.

Just a block from our house was Hales Blackbrick, in its new Hyde Park location. Their Happy Hour menu had a nice selection of cocktails and creative dim sum offerings. On the regular menu, the chilled green beans were spicy and perfectly crisp-tender, and the fried rice was a surprisingly tasty combo of shrimp and prosciutto.
