The Presbytère: Mardi Gras

The first level of the Presbytère was all about New Orleanians’ resilience in the face of disaster. The second level was all about how the people of New Orleans Let the Good Times Roll. We learned about the evolution of Mardi Gras balls, costumes, parades, and other traditions.

One of our favorite exhibits was about legendary costume designer San Nicholas, whose remarkable, colorful life has already inspired a musical. And an exhibit on the satirical side of Mardi Gras was laugh-out-loud funny. It was interesting to see how historically elitist traditions eventually became an inclusive city-wide celebration where everyone can feel welcome and have a good time.
