Mackinac Island Part III

We've completed 18 weeks on the road, including three weeks in Michigan, the last of which was on Mackinac Island. That week on the island was definitely our favorite! I couldn't resist sharing this last batch of photos.

We loved the variety of things to discover when exploring on foot. Outside of the bustling downtown, well-maintained trails at high elevations offered sweeping views of the Straits of Mackinac and the famous lighthouses.

We loved walking along the marina, too.

There was plenty of free live music on the island! We heard an excellent jazz quartet called Djangophonique at the Mission Point Inn.

An outdoor concert at the park featured an all-female trio called Gin, Chocolate, and Bottle Rockets.

Our favorite restaurant, Smokey Jose's, had a guitarist/vocalist who was the perfect accompaniment for spicy mango margaritas...

...and trash can nachos with shredded roast pork, guacamole, and queso. YUM.

Speaking of great food, a staple on the island is fresh-caught whitefish, which we enjoyed planked (at Kingston Kitchen) and pistachio-crusted (at Yankee Rebel).

Finally, here's my favorite view of downtown, the park, and the strait, as seen from Fort Mackinac.

I'll end with this shot from the cannon demonstration at Fort Mackinac, because we definitely had a blast!
