Santa Fe, New Mexico Part I

We've completed 6 weeks of working on the road, and 1 week here in Santa Fe. Although we're at nearly 7,000 ft elevation, we barely noticed the climb when we drove here. That's quite a difference from the steep roads and hairpin turns needed to reach our cabin in NC, which was at only 3,500 ft!

Our Santa Fe condo has all-white walls, a kiva fireplace in one corner, and contemporary wooden furniture. From the balcony, we can see the Sangre de Cristo Mountains through the trees, and many colorful birds. We're taking turns working outside on the balcony, and taking occasional naps on the daybed swing.

We are only a mile from the Santa Fe Plaza (=downtown). There are at least four major grocery stores, several shopping centers, and countless restaurants within a five minute drive. We love Mexican and New Mexican cuisine, so even if we eat out almost every day (which we plan to), we can't possibly try all the restaurants that look interesting.

The air is very dry. We're having to drink more fluids, and I'm using a lot more skin lotion and hair conditioner. It can get quite hot - up to 90 degrees - in the afternoons, but it's quite comfortable in the shade, and the cool breezes help, too. The mornings and evenings are lovely, in the 60's.

For our daily walks, we like the greenway that runs along the Santa Fe River. ("River" is stretching it, it's more like a creek this time of year.) There are pueblo-style homes across the street, and interesting public sculptures along the sidewalk. We are loving the contrast between this "home away from home" and our previous one.
