Washington, D.C. Part III

What was once a fish market is now a trendy destination called The Wharf. We strolled through and saw stylish office and apartment buildings, hip restaurants, and fun spaces for first dates as well as families. There was even a community fire pit next to a little Airstream camper selling the ingredients and supplies for making s'mores. So cute and clever!

Our friends Cheryl and James Dodwell reserved a fire pit on the terrace of a restaurant called Officina, just for the four of us. After dinner, we went to James' office next door to admire the view from the rooftop. We're adding the Wharf to our list of cool DC places for future visits. (Cheryl and James have always been on our list of cool DC friends.)

Speaking of friends, the week before, we went to Tyson's Corner to have dinner with Kristin and Dan Furth, former Tampa neighbors. We reminisced about the days when our kids were small and we all took turns playing in each others' backyards. Now those kids are grown, and most of them have flown. Where did the time go?

We also enjoyed catching up over dinner with college friend Matt Saal and his partner Zen Lu, who live in downtown DC not far from our hotel. Maybe we'll meet up in Thailand one day, who knows?

Our niece Lyric Perot is at Georgetown Law School. We enjoyed meeting her boyfriend Brendan and learning about life as twenty-somethings in DC. They have bright futures ahead!

Brunch is a big deal in the DC area, and the best brunch in town was at the Dodwells' home in nearby Bethesda. Cheryl and James served a homemade feast, including shakshuka and apple crisp. Shaun Cohen, another college buddy, brought a beautiful cinnamon star that he had baked. Everything was DELISH, and it was lovely to catch up on kids and travels and aspirations. We made a pact to get together more often, and not just in DC.
