2021
Ch-ch-ch-changes
"Turn and face the strange..."
The theme for our family in 2021 was CHANGE. Good change - the kind that excites us, and makes us stronger and more resilient. Embracing change can be a good antidote to pandemic "blahs." As we open the door to let in the New Year, we are thankful that we had the resources and opportunity for adventure in 2021, and for the vaccines that kept us, our kids, and our parents healthy throughout. Warm wishes for a happy and healthy New Year!
Maria & Steve: Digital Nomads
It started as a simple wish to avoid another hot Florida summer in quarantine, and quickly grew into something more ambitious. We were already experienced remote workers for Accenture and Willis Towers Watson. We gave away nearly everything we owned, much of it via the Buy Nothing Project. In April, we sold our house on Willow Ave and embarked on an Epic Road Trip. We drove over 13,000 miles, living and working for a month at a time in seven different states. A grand adventure was exactly what we needed! In November, we returned to Tampa and are now living in a high rise apartment building downtown in Water Street. Do come for a visit!
Danny: Start-up Founder
In April, Danny quit his job at Microsoft. With his two best buddies from Princeton, he moved to Austin, TX and founded a new company called Legion Health, with a mission to improve access to mental healthcare. They were selected for Y Combinator's summer batch and successfully completed their first funding round. As COO and Head of Product, Danny stays pretty busy, but he has picked up his tennis racquet again, and makes time to stay in regular touch with his family and his lovely girlfriend Jordan. We are very proud of Danny and his friends, and look forward to seeing what these talented young men will achieve together.
Amy: College Senior
Where did the time go? Amy is heading into her last semester at Wake Forest. She decided to major in Mathematical Business, with a minor in Computer Science. She spent the summer in Winston-Salem, working remotely for a small firm in NJ. In October, we had a great time with Amy and her ADPi friends at Wake Family weekend. Amy's love for cheering on her favorite sports teams now includes the Tampa Bay Lightning, so we look forward to more family game days. In December Amy accepted an offer to work for EY (Ernst & Young) Consulting in New York. We are very proud of her and happy that her hard work has been rewarded with a good job in her dream city.
