2023
New Eras
2023 brought big milestones and life changes for our family. We're taking a cue from Taylor Swift and calling them new eras.
As we reflect on the past year, we feel deeply grateful for our many blessings. We treasure the time spent with family and friends. More than ever before, we are aware that every day together is a gift, and we need to make the most of it. With the arrival of 2024, we pray for peace in the world, and send you warm wishes for health and happiness in the coming year.
A New Decade
Steve was grumpy about turning 60, despite Maria assuring him he was aging like a fine wine, and his boss insisting he thought he was much younger. We celebrated twice, with double-birthday trips! First we took a cruise with Steve's parents - Dad Wilson turned 90 this year. Then we rendezvoused with our Seattle-based friends Kevin (also turning 60) and his wife Carolyn for good food and fun in Mexico City. When not griping about being old, Steve continued to keep Maria happy and well-fed, teach himself guitar, and volunteer as an usher at the Straz Center.
A New Life Chapter
After 37 years at Accenture, Maria retired in November at age 58. When life gives you lemons (mass layoff), make lemonade (early retirement)! She quickly switched gears and became a busy volunteer leader at the Metropolitan Ministries Holiday Tent, helping to provide over 30,000 families with meals and gifts. She also volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and backstage at the Straz Center. Maria's new passions are long walks along the river, audiobooks, and jigsaw puzzles. Her favorite new "job" is planning...
A New National Tour
We're preparing for another Epic Road Trip, launching in February 2024! Similar to our 2021 adventure, the 2024 version involves driving our little roadster around the U.S., living and (in Steve's case) working in a different state each month. Stay tuned.
A New AI-Enabled Future
Danny is enjoying life and work in downtown Austin, where he is still running Legion Health with his co-founders/best buddies Yash and Arthur. We're fascinated by how naturally Danny interacts with GPT4 in his day-to-day life, for everything from writing code to writing songs. When not being an AI chatbot whisperer, Danny enjoys cooking for his friends and making videos with his Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. His classy girlfriend Mei can keep up with his brainstorms much better than we can, and she is now a welcome participant in our weekly Family [Virtual] Game Night.
A New Home City
Amy moved to another (larger) walk-up apartment with her roommates, Emily and Fiona. She loves the East Village vibe, though her consulting job with EY keeps her busy with commutes to Manhattan West and Wall Street. Amy inherited our love of Broadway, which was a great excuse for us to make extra trips to NYC and see more shows. She's chill with celebrity sightings, impatient with slow-moving tourists, and done with Santa-Con, which means she's well on her way to becoming a real New Yorker.
