A Day in San Antonio

San Antonio is about 1.5 hours’ drive from Austin, and some friends live nearby and asked us to visit, so naturally we decided to make a weekend trip. We had plans to drive down after work on Friday afternoon. But then Life Happened, and I had a gout flare on Thursday night. Ugh. I immediately took anti-inflammatory meds and elevated my foot all day Friday. I was determined to go forward with our plans and go to SATX on Saturday morning, but it meant we had just that one day to explore.

Well, it turns out that, even though we didn't start the drive down until after 9am, we had plenty of time. We did so many fun things and took so many photos that I decided to make multiple posts. I’m linking them all here, so I have one post that I can share with any friends interested in visiting SATX.

I never intended to do so much, and I definitely should not have walked 11+ miles on my poor gouty foot! But SATX is compact, and packed with interesting things to do, and it is possible to do quite a lot in a short time. Additionally, there are plenty of things we did NOT have time for that I would love to do on a future visit. For example:

  • Rent bicycles and ride to all of the San Antonio Missions

  • See The Saga, a light show projected onto the facade of San Fernando Cathedral

  • Ride the River Cruise shuttle up to the Pearl District and go to Jazz, TX, a supper club that sounds really cool

  • Check out the new museum they’re building at the Alamo

  • Visit one or more of the other art museums, the Japanese Garden, or the Botanical Garden

So here’s my take: if you only have one day to explore SATX, go for it. And if you have 2 or 3 days or more, go for it. Either way, you will have a great time!
