San Antonio - Pearl District

The fifth and last stop of our day in San Antonio was The Historic Pearl, an industrial area just north of downtown San Antonio that was transformed into a vibrant, ultra-cool neighborhood. It’s at the north end of a quiet stretch of the San Antonio River. We drove from the River Walk, but you can also get to Pearl on foot or on a river boat shuttle.

There are artsy shops, trendy restaurants, a hip food hall, and luxury apartments. The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) has a campus there. We were particularly wowed by the Hotel Emma, which was once a 19th century brewhouse. Now it’s a very chic hotel that celebrates its origins yet is undeniably modern.

We came to Pearl to meet up with our friends Stephanie and Christopher, whom we met in Tampa and who now live near San Antonio. We dined at Supper, a restaurant at the Hotel Emma that calls itself an “American eatery.” The seasonal menu was creative and delicious, and it was wonderful to catch up with our friends! It was the perfect way to finish an eventful and memorable day in San Antonio.
