WWII Museum

The National World War II Museum didn’t immediately come to mind when we thought of New Orleans. Thank goodness our friends told us about it - we were thoroughly impressed. It’s definitely a must-see if you ever visit NOLA.

It is impossible to do this place justice in a short blog post. So here are a few thoughts:

  • The exhibits are VERY well-designed. There are historical facts in clear, digestible bits, interspersed with touching personal stories.

  • There are artifacts and photos that will make you laugh, and others that may bring tears to your eyes. Prepare to be awed and moved.

  • We were particularly impressed with the dramatic buildup of the D-Day invasion of Normandy and the jungle atmosphere in the Pacific Theater gallery.

  • We spent four hours here, and it felt like half that long. And we saw only half of the museum. So eat a big breakfast and allow plenty of time, or consider purchasing a second-day pass.
