WWII Museum
The National World War II Museum didn’t immediately come to mind when we thought of New Orleans. Thank goodness our friends told us about it - we were thoroughly impressed. It’s definitely a must-see if you ever visit NOLA.
It is impossible to do this place justice in a short blog post. So here are a few thoughts:
The exhibits are VERY well-designed. There are historical facts in clear, digestible bits, interspersed with touching personal stories.
There are artifacts and photos that will make you laugh, and others that may bring tears to your eyes. Prepare to be awed and moved.
We were particularly impressed with the dramatic buildup of the D-Day invasion of Normandy and the jungle atmosphere in the Pacific Theater gallery.
We spent four hours here, and it felt like half that long. And we saw only half of the museum. So eat a big breakfast and allow plenty of time, or consider purchasing a second-day pass.
