Jackson, Mississippi

On Friday we were in five different states (NC, SC, GA, AL, MS)! Steve loves driving the Z4, so I am the navigator and deejay. We discovered a fascinating podcast called Dolly Parton’s America, which made the miles and hours fly by.

We stopped in Atlanta for lunch, where I had my first ever Naked Chicken Chalupa. I've been wanting to try this ever since listening to Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast last year. Let's just say, I'm glad I tried it, but one was plenty.

We arrived in Jackson just in time to check into our hotel and get to Pig & Pint, a well-known BBQ place in the historic Fondren district. After a long day of driving, it was wonderful to be greeted warmly by their friendly staff and stuff ourselves on their outstanding food. We had pork rind nachos with brisket, a couple of fried green tomato tacos, and excellent local craft beer and cider. Look at that smile on Steve's face! Let's just say, we both would DEFINITELY come back here again for more.

On Saturday we visited the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. They did a great job of unpacking the complicated, painful story of racism in America and putting it in historical context. It was sobering, enlightening, and thought-provoking. I highly recommend it.

Mississippi is also the home of legendary blues musicians - Jimmie Rodgers, Robert Johnson, B. B. King, Muddy Waters, and many more. There was no shortage of good blues to listen to during our long drive. Our visit was brief, but worthwhile. Thank you, Jackson!

P.S. It's fun typing Mississippi. I spell it out in my head while I type. Just had to do it one more time: Mississippi.
