New York Part I

We've completed 24 weeks on the road, including nearly two weeks living and working in New York City.

Steve and I have a tradition of traveling to New York every February for a long weekend, to binge on Broadway shows and great restaurants. It's having a long, perfect date once a year. And since this is an Epic Road Trip, why not make that perfect date last a whole month?

Our first night in New York was in a hotel in Times Square. Breakfast the next morning was in the hotel restaurant, with this fabulous view. What an awesome "Welcome Back!"

After a whirlwind trip to North Carolina for Wake Forest Family Weekend, and a great day with Amy and her friends, we returned to New York and settled into our apartment in the Theater District. From our rooms and small balcony on the 41st floor, we can see several Broadway theaters, a sliver of the Hudson River, and the top of the Freedom Tower.

Our apartment is just steps away from Times Square and Hell's Kitchen. Our daily walks are different every day because there is so much to explore in these vibrant neighborhoods. Best of all, Broadway - actually all of New York's theater scene - has reopened, and we're rapidly making up for lost time. We have already seen six live performances and have tickets for six more!

We also managed to see a live taping of the Late Show, which we were never able to do when visiting for only a weekend.

And there have been some wonderful food adventures! But I'll save all that for another day.

It's just like those wonderful lyrics sung by the Schuyler Sisters in the musical Hamilton:

“HIStory is HAPPening in ManHATTan and we just HAPPen to be

In the greatest city in the world! In the greatest city in the world!”
