Washington, D.C. Part I

We've been on the road for 200 days! And we have just completed two weeks living and working in our nation's capital, Washington D.C.

We left New York at the end of October on an overcast Sunday morning, and made our way down the New Jersey Turnpike. As we entered DC, the skies were clear, and the Washington Monument seemed to say, "Welcome - we've been waiting for you!"

Our home base doesn't have a view - it's on the fifth floor, directly across from an office building - but it's nicely decorated and has plenty of space for both of us to work.

We are living literally around the corner from the White House. Come to think of it, we may not own a house of our own any more, but the White House belongs to the people of the United States, so it's technically our house, right?

As in New York, we parked our car in a garage and have been exploring the neighborhood mostly on foot.

The ornate EEOB (Eisenhower Executive Office Building) is impressive - you may love it or hate it, but it's definitely not boring.

It seems as if all the buildings here are massive. Fortunately, thanks to the President's Park and The Ellipse, there are also plenty of trees. Fall has definitely arrived!

Last Saturday morning we left our room and walked toward the National Mall. Oddly, the Ellipse was blocked off, so we shrugged and walked on. As we crossed Constitution Avenue, there were loud sirens and police cars abruptly blocked off the street. The reason became obvious a minute later when we heard the loud whir of helicopters. Marine One landed on the South Lawn of the White House, delivering (or picking up?) President Biden. Come to think of it, when he isn't meeting with world leaders, he works from home, just like we do. Welcome home, neighbor! It's another beautiful day in the neighborhood.
